SOCHUM
The General Assembly Third Committee (GA3) is one of the six committees of the General Assembly, also known as Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs Committee (SOCHUM). This committee deals with issues with a range of social, humanitarian affairs and human rights issues that affect people's lives all around the world. SOCHUM deals with questions not only relates to universal human rights, but also on the advancement of women, protection of children, indigenous issues, treatment of refugees, and the promotion of fundamental freedom through the elimination of racial discrimination.

Other important topics the committee addresses are questions relating to important social development; such as issues regarding the youth, an aging population, people with disability, crime prevention, criminal justice, and international drug control. The committee also works closely with other UN and non-UN bodies, including both governments and non-governmental organizations under the guidelines of the Charter of the United Nations to efficiently address its mandated issues.
